Check for outdated SSL2 protocol
If the result is positive, there is no need for further action. If the result is negative, please read the following instructions.
|Result positive||Outdated protocol version SSL2 not supported.|
|Result negativ||Outdated protocol version SSL2 supported.|
|Description||The server supports the outdated protocol version SSL2, which is considered to be highly insecure. By using this version, you massively compromise the security of the server and possibly your entire company network.|
|Background||SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) stands for a hybrid (combined) encryption protocol for secure data transmission on the internet, it forms the basis for secure connections via HTTPS. The version SSL2 was first introduced in 1994 and is no longer supported officially since 2011. The name SSL has been replaced by TLS (Transport Layer Security). The SSL2 security flaw is used, for example, as a gateway for DROWN attack: SSL protocol from the Stone Age is fatal to servers (German only), which allows criminals to intercept the entire data communication of your website.|
|Consequence||SSL2 is not supported any more by most internet browsers. Most browsers are configured to warn users against visiting SSL2 websites, or even to block access to them completely. The warning message that your visitors receive will have a negative effect on your company's presentation on the internet. If internet browsers do not trust your website, why should your customers trust you? The further use of SSL2 will also have a negative effect on search engine rank, and visitors will be alerted in the search results that there is a security issue on your website.|
|Solution/Tips||If Outdated protocol version SSL2 supported was reported: TLS encoding is considered to be the standard today. Therefore you should not use SSL2.|
